ALPost 206 invites the Veterans of Charlotte Hall to the legion once a month for a free lunch. Bonnie (staff member at Charlotte Hall) contacted us to plan an overnight camp out for the Vets at Camp Merryelande on St. George Island in Southern Maryland. Valet Camping provides tents already set up with air beds, cots, tables and chairs, sheets and pillows. This way the camping experience is more like going to a bed and breakfast than sleeping in the woods. The tents are setup on a beach along a tree line so there is some shade. When the Veterans arrived we picked them up in a four wheel drive Kawasaki mule since there is no driving access to the beach camp. They rented four of our tents and came with supervisors to take care of their medical needs. They camped one night and I was very impressed. Some used canes, others walkers, and several could get around on their own. The men enjoyed their stay and have booked another visit for June.

The shots were taken at Camp Merryelande, Far East beach, Valet Camping May 17th and 18th 2007. This was co-ordinated between Bonnie ( activities director at Charlotte Hall) and Ms. Pat of Valet Camping at Camp Merryelande. They are planning several more visits over the summer months. The Veterans were a pleasure to have at the camp and we were very impressed with the fact that they even attempted a camping trip in their later years. Being Veterans, they all had stories to tell and remembered times when a tent was truly their home. Now that they are retired they still enjoy the outdoors and enjoyed the Valet style where we believe we treated them much better than they were used to in the service.
